New And Improved!

Okay, first let me just make a confession. I gave up alcohol for Lent. This has been the most Lenten humbling experience in my life (so far) and it's only been a little over a week. I do not feel that I have/had an alcohol problem (I shall continue to reflect on this as days pass), but this is one of the hardest things I've ever given up (harder than that time I gave up brownies in hs).

Secondly, it's time I re-evaluate this blog and give it a face lift (and maybe a post or two). Everyone else has a craft blog and what held me back before was that I could not commit to just one craft. I am mediocre at so many, how could I only choose one to focus on? Problem solved, my friends. By the way, can we give it up for text formatting? No? Okay, moving on.

Two weeks ago I dove, once again, head first into making amigurumi animals. I've had a book for a while, and I've even tried a few patterns on the internet. However, I've never finished one (you're so shocked, I'm sure), so I vowed to finish this one, no matter what. My ultimate goal is to make one of each of the animals in the book (10 in all) and I started with the owl.

First, here is what he looked like in the book:And now for my abomination:

He has no eyes, but I did make him a hat (with a plume - not pictured) and a "scarf." I then gave him to ld, so now he hangs out on his desk with his super pals. All in all, not too terrible for my first real attempt. I learned/remembered some things (like relaxing, and not making my stitches too tight) and placing the marker on the correct stitch. Overall I found that I really enjoyed making him and now I'm one step closer to SackBoy and Bender.


Annnnd in other news, I started tomatoes, banana peppers, spinach and some herbs today. Yay for gardening!
